HMP Wymott is a male Category C trainer prison which has accommodation for both sex offenders and mainstream Cat C offenders.
It opened in 1979 as a Category C prison.

Wymott offers a wide range of education and training opportunities all of which lead to nationally accredited qualifications.
Opportunities for Category C offenders include Engineering, Welding, Paint Spraying, Bricklaying, Joinery, Painting and Decorating, Industrial Cleaning, Aluminium Window Manufacture, Fork Lift Truck Training, FOCUS Gym Instructor Qualifications, Recycling, Horticulture, Catering and a PICTA workshop leading to high level IT qualifications.
VP offenders are employed within Tailoring, Laundry, Welding, Waste Management, a state-of-the-art Print Shop, Retail Workshop, Catering, Horticulture, Industrial Cleaning and the PICTA Workshop.
A full Education programme is on offer on a part time basis. Subjects include Literacy and Numeracy from Pre-Entry to Level 2, Information Technology from basic to advanced, Art and Design, Cookery, Accountancy, History, ESOL, Financial Literacy, Assertiveness, Parenting, Drug and Alcohol Awareness, Access to Higher Education progressing to Open University. Food Hygiene, Health and Safety Courses and training for the CSCS card compliment the vocational training courses. Regular Parenting Days are linked to the Family Learning Course.
At the Resettlement and Interventions Board on Induction, all offenders meet with representatives from the Offender Management Unit, Industries, Education and Regimes and activities targets are agreed in line with their sentence plan.
The PE Department consists of a large sports hall, weights room, CV room, training classroom, remedial suite, pavilion, assault course and full size outdoor sports field. A full programme of daytime, and weekend activities is available to suit all tastes and levels of fitness.
The Chaplaincy team employs staff from a range of faiths, as well as 40 sessional ministers and volunteers. Weekly services and teaching are available. There is also an excellent band and choir which meet weekly.
Wymott offers a range of Offending Behaviour Programmes including the Thinking Skills Programme, Healthy Relationships Programme and the Sex Offender Treatment Programme, including a version of the programme designed for men with learning difficulties. A Victim Awareness Course is also offered by the Chaplaincy Team.
Special facilities are available for Elderly and Disabled offenders . A newly-opened Activities Centre works closely with local Age Concern staff and full-time social care workers to provide a range of social and resettlement activities including a CAMEO Group(Come and Meet Each Other).
A Custody to Work team provides all offenders with help and support in the 16 weeks prior to release about accommodation, employment and training, benefits, bank accounts and financial literacy. A modular Pre-Release course underpins this work.
Supporting Offenders with Drug Issues
The 70 place Therapeutic Community operates independently from the main prison with a full programme of activities to support a drug-free return to the community. A large CARATS team works with all offenders to prevent relapse.
HMP Wymott also has an IDTS Unit which takes offenders on a managed methadone programme, a substance-free unit for Cat C prisoners involving psychosocial interventions and the accredited Building Skills for Recovery programme.
