Re-rolled in 1998 and completely rebuilt by 1999, Send currently operates as a closed Female Training Prison. It also houses a 20 bed Addictive Treatment Unit, an 80 bed Resettlement Unit and a Therapeutic Community with a capacity of 40.

Accommodation: A,B,C,E,F and J Wings are cellular accommodation, all single with integral sanitation and individual showers, with A-Wing housing a Pipe unit (Psychologically informed planned environment) and J wing housing our Therapeutic Community. E & F wings make up the Resettlement Unit and D Wing, the Addictive Treatment Unit is a 20 women unit with double rooms and communal showers.
Regime: HMP Send delivers a integrated regime that enables all prisoners to work, partake in education and recreational physical activity. Send has an extensive Education curriculum that includes adult literacy and numeracy, employability skills, and vocational qualifications in Business Administration, Hairdressing, Customer Services, Horticulture, Professional Catering, Information Advice and Guidance, Gym instructor and Beauty. HMP Send has opportunities for prisoners to undertake Distance Learning courses up to degree level.
In addition to this there are opportunities for those on the Resettlement unit to undertake Voluntary work and Work placements within the community. These opportunities are subject to stringent eligibility testing and licence conditions.
